Dr. Sandoval extends a warm welcome to Mind Care Services. Dr. Sandoval is a board-certified psychiatrist who is up to date on her credentials and education. She earned her undergraduate degree in Microbiology at Indiana University then pursued a one-year fellowship with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as an emergent infectious disease expert in West Nile Virus. She was also actively involved in the surveillance and testing for anthrax during the aftermath of 911 and was involved in bioterrorism response education.

She earned her doctorate degree in medicine from Indiana University School of Medicine and simultaneously completed her master’s degree in Cellular and Integrative Physiology. During her first year in medical school she was honored to accept a position as a Slemenda Scholar with the Indiana University-Moi University Faculty of Health Sciences program where she studied medicine in the underdeveloped nation of Kenya, Africa with a focus on HIV treatment and community outreach. She conducted research in the Department of Endocrinology at Indiana University School of Medicine analyzing novel gene expression of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in adipose tissue of obese individuals in an attempt to develop a test to measure the amount of omental adipose tissue that is related to the development of type 2 diabetes.

Afterwards she was accepted and successfully completed her psychiatry residency training at Harbor UCLA where she had extensive training in psychopharmacology (medication) and psychotherapy with a focus on difficult to treat populations. She had training in adult, child, geriatric, and forensic populations with a focus on general adult psychiatry.

Dr. Sandoval has worked with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health as the pioneer physician in starting and implementing telepsychiatry services to underserved areas of California in order to reach and provide greater access to mental health services to those in need. She also helped start the indirect consultation program between mental health professionals and primary care physicians. This program was designed to education primary care physicians in basic mental health treatments in order to reach a greater number of individuals in need. And to provide both physical and mental health care needs at the same location for the benefit of the patient.

Dr. Sandoval has worked in a variety of settings including psychiatric emergency services, urgent care, geriatric and adult inpatient units, partial hospitalization programs and intensive outpatient programs, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities, acute detox centers and traditional outpatient services. She has experience in treating individuals with ADHD, substance use, mood, anxiety, PTSD, psychotic, and personality disorders. She is also educated and trained to provide one of the newest treatment modalities for medication resistant individuals who seek alternative treatments for their illness. This includes Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Spravato^TM (esketamine) treatments.

Her approach is to provide individualized and integrative care giving consideration to therapy, medication, patient education and genetics when warranted. She aims to make you feel comfortable and hopeful about your recovery providing the necessary education on diagnosis, treatment options and expectations. She is experienced and aims to provide the most comprehensive services and care options available. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and Clinical TMS Society.

Lastly, Dr. Sandoval is a wife and a mother of 2 children of which she adores with all of her being. She enjoys watching little league baseball games, soccer and gymnastics. And when she has a little time alone she enjoys weight lifting, kickboxing, listening to 70s and 80s music and watching Marvel movies.
