Hugo Pina is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over six years of healthcare experience spanning emergency medicine, inpatient psychiatry, psychiatric emergency services, and outpatient mental health care as well as as an independent consultant conducting psychiatric disability assessments for SSI/SSDI. His background in high-acuity psychiatric settings has provided extensive experience working with individuals experiencing acute psychosis, mood disorders, suicidal crises, and other complex psychiatric presentations.

At Mind Care Services, Hugo specializes in the psychiatric evaluation and medication management of adults with conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, ADHD, sleep-wake disorders, and complex trauma-related disorders.

Hugo believes mental health treatment should extend beyond medication alone. He utilizes a holistic and collaborative approach incorporating psychopharmacology, patient education, exercise and healthy lifestyle habits, and diagnostic laboratory testing when appropriate to identify potential medical contributors to psychiatric symptoms. His goal is to help patients understand their diagnoses and treatment options while developing individualized and sustainable treatment plans.

Prior to his career in healthcare, Hugo served in the United States Marine Corps. His military background has contributed to his appreciation for resilience, complex trauma-informed care, and the unique challenges associated with major life transitions. Hugo is also Spanish-speaking and strives to provide culturally responsive care while reducing language barriers for Spanish-speaking patients.
